Top Notes: Pink and Black Pepper, Indian Incense, and Calabrian Bergamot. The opening is spicy and smoky from the peppers and incense, with the Bergamot providing a fleeting, fresh, citrus edge to cut through the initial darkness.

Middle Notes (Heart Notes): Cambodian Oud, Bulgarian Rose, Black Leather, and Indonesian Patchouli Leaves. This is the core of the fragrance a sophisticated, dark blend. The Oud is prominent, combined with a dominant Black Leather and the classic counterpoint of Rose. Patchouli adds an earthy, slightly damp depth.

Base Notes: Warm Labdanum, Mysore Sandalwood, Vanilla Powder, and White Musk. The dry-down softens into a warm, creamy richness. Sandalwood and Vanilla Powder provide a smooth, almost sweet, powdery woodiness, while Labdanum reinforces the balsamic and resinous warmth, and Musk ensures immense longevity.

Due to its composition of rose, oud, and other oriental notes, it naturally shares DNA with other Montale hits like Black Aoud, but Oud Edition is generally considered richer, leaning heavily into the incense and leather/sandalwood aspect, giving it a unique depth.
